Fabric waste is a persistent challenge within the fashion industry, with mountains of textiles being sent to landfills or incinerated every year. Shockingly, despite the reported 100 billion new garments produced annually, less than 1% of the materials used come from recycled or reusable fabrics.
The fashion industry generates an estimated 92 million tons of textile waste annually, a figure expected to surge by 60% between 2015 and 2030. This increase will add 57 million tons of waste each year, resulting in an annual total of 148 million tons by 2030 (Fashionrevolution.org).
