Our Story
At Gemmaris we are passionate about beautiful clothes and the welfare of our planet.
Fabric waste is an ongoing issue within the fashion industry with mountains of fabric sent to landfill or burned every year (Fashion Transparency Index 2023). Sadly, of the reported 100 billion new garments produced annually less than 1% of the material used in its production comes from recycled material or re-useable fabrics. It’s estimated that 92m tons of textile waste is created annually by the fashion industry. Also, textile waste is to increase by around 60% between 2015 and 2030 with an additional 57m tons of waste being generated annually, reaching an annual total of 148m tons (Fashionrevolution.org). This “waste” fabric is undoubtedly better off in the hands of a small designer who is starting out and needs to access readily available fabric at an affordable price.
The Many Benefits of Seasonless Clothing:
We love our seasonless clothing collection. Instead of producing large collections every few months, we have a core selection of garments to which we will occasionally add a couple of new styles or offer existing styles in different fabrics/colours depending on the availability of deadstock fabrics. Seasonless fashion also means the removal of seasonal trends so you can focus on the styles of clothes you love instead of feeling pressured to update your wardrobe with the latest fashion.
